Applying to VBFS
While incredibly thorough and personalized, we designed our application process to be both engaging and interactive. Below, please find every document needed to begin the application process to VBFS.
At Friends, we've developed a four-phase application process that allows your children to meet and interact with faculty, staff and current VBFS students. Ultimately, our goal throughout this process is to ensure that VBFS is the perfect education institution for your children.
1. Initial Meeting
Please call to schedule an appointment with the Director of Admissions to learn more about our programs, discuss your child's needs and to take a full tour of our campus. Tours are available on most schools days by appointment.
Please note that VBFS has a rolling admissions policy. Students are welcomed throughout the year, transitioning ideally at the beginning of the next quarter or semester.
All forms for applying to VBFS can be found at the top of this page. Please submit the Application, Applicant Questionnaire and Authorization for Release Records, along with the $100 application fee, to VBFS.
Upon receiving these items and admission fees, our Admissions Office will open an official file for the student. We will then send the Authorization for Release Records to the current school with the request that records be sent directly to our Admissions Office.
Download, complete and sign the top section of the appropriate Teacher Recommendation Form and/or Personal Reference form and submit to your child's current teachers. Note that two forms are required for Middle and Upper School students. As a courtesy, please provide the teacher with a stamped envelope addressed to the Virginia Beach Friends School. Once you complete the Online Application for Admissions, the Recommendation Forms will be available in the Online Application.
3. Visit Days
Once all records have been requested and received, they will be reviewed by the admissions team to determine if the applicant is eligible to visit. Classroom visits are typically scheduled on Wednesdays and Thursdays.
Each applicant will be assessed formally and informally throughout their visit. Visiting students should participate as fully as possible and may even be given homework. Each teacher will submit written observations of the student that will become part of our confidential admission file that will be considered as part of the admissions team's final decision.
4. Review & Decision
The final step in this process is the review of the completed file by the admissions team. If additional testing is necessary, it will be administered through our Learning Center, which includes a $150 non-refundable fee. The time frame of this phase can vary depending on the receipt and review of all required documents and observations. The Admissions Director will keep the family informed throughout this entire process up until the school's decision.
