College & Career
At Friends, all students receive the support and mentoring needed to grow into their very best selves. All Upper School students connect with a college counselor to identify specific educational goals that are monitored and supported throughout the school year. This strategy fosters an understanding of the importance of goal setting and follow-through to achieve success.
College counseling begins earnestly during each student's junior year. This is a time where we define the college application process to help students and families understand higher education options after VBFS. As students move into their senior year, we help students and families identify and narrow down the "best fit" in terms collegiate options and assist them in the application process.
Throughout their time in Upper School, we connect our students with key resources relating to career development, as well as the college entrance process. This support comes in the way of college fairs, college application workshops, and an overview of how to select and earn college scholarships.
VBFS students have been accepted to over 40 colleges, with a 88% acceptance rate.
School Counseling & Guidance
Our Counseling Center is a place that assists students in becoming more aware of the importance of effective and positive socialization skills. Socially intelligent individuals display the ability to empathize with others, control impulses, communicate effectively, as well as make and preserve strong connections with both peers and authority figures. These seemingly basic skills have proven to be the cornerstone of success both in and beyond the classroom.
The goal of our school counseling is to ensure students excel academically and develop the life skills needed for a successful future. We achieve this by helping students understand that feelings dictate behavior. VBFS Students know and understand they are always welcome in the School Counselor's office to talk. Plus, our School Counselor makes it a point to personally know every student. These relationships are invaluable to student success in their daily relationships.
The VBFS Counseling Center works with students to develop the following areas of Social Emotional Intelligence:
- Bullying Awareness/Prevention
- Working Together
- Community Service
Please think of school counseling as an additional tool designed to ensure each student's experience at VBFS is positive and effective. Feel free to contact your counselor with questions, concerns, or suggestions related to your VBFS student!
